Peter Crouch believes that Tottenham Hotspur are capable of ending their trophy drought this season, but he insists that there has to be one major change at the club for it to happen.
Postecoglou has not been shy of announcing that Tottenham are setting their sights on winning a trophy this season.
In fact, not only has the Australian pointed out that he always wins silverware in his second season at clubs, but he has also asserted that he would have failed if the club ended the campaign without a trophy.
However, given the inconsistency Spurs have shown over recent weeks, it remains to be seen if they have it in them to go all the way in one of the cup competitions.
Crouch sympathised with the injury list that Postecoglou is having to contend with, pointing out that the fixtures come thick and fast over the next month.
The former Spurs striker told TNT Sports (as relayed by The Daily Mail): “They’re going to need players back. It’s Thursday, Sunday for about five weeks now.
“Difficult fixtures, they’ll need the centre halves back but in the lead-up to Christmas, it’s the same for everyone. It gets ridiculous. When most of Europe is having a break, our league is going full hammer.
“That’s great for us as viewers but for the players, it’s hard to manage – when you look at some of those fixtures, they need to win something this year.”
Crouch suggested that Spurs have the talent to go all the way in the Europa League and the Carabao Cup, but remarked that the players have to overcome a mental block to get over the line.
He added: “The Europa League is big for them but the League Cup as well, against Manchester United, that’s a big game for Tottenham especially after the manager put himself under pressure with some of his comments.
“I still think they can definitely win something. They’ve got the manager and players to do it. It’s just a mentality thing to get it over the line now.”
The current Tottenham players do not carry the baggage of the past, with the squad having been completely revamped over the past few years.
The tag of ‘bottlers’ will not play on the mind of this set of players, who will believe that they can go all the way in the Carabao Cup if they overcome Man Utd and book their place in the final four.
