The actor, known for roles in shows like Days of Our Lives and Dynasty, died at the age of 77 on Friday (November 29), his publicist confirmed to Deadline.

“He took his last breath in the arms of his family. We wish to thank the most caring and amazing place, The Motion Picture and Television Home for taking such great care of him. Wayne touched so many people with his sense of humor and wit. A husband for 43 years, the best dad ever to his two boys, Hank and Grady, and a rancher who loved his cows and was a friend to many.”
Wayne is perhaps best known as Roman Brady, Deidre Hall’s on-screen husband, in NBC’s Days of Our Lives, which he played from 1981 to 1984, and then from 1991 to 1994. Wayne was recast in the TV series in 2005 as Dr. Alex North, using recut scenes from his time as Roman to explain the new backstory.
His death comes shortly after Days co-star Drake Hogestyn‘s passing, who played John Black, the character who was at first believed to be Roman with extensive brainwashing and plastic surgery.
In addition, Wayne played Michael Culhane, chauffeur for Blake Carrington (John Forsythe) in ABC‘s Dynasty from 1981 to 1987, as well as Rex Stanton in Port Charles, along with appearing in shows like L.A. Law, Cold Case, Hotel and Eight Is Enough.
Our thoughts are with Wayne Northrop‘s loved ones at this difficult time. We have sadly lost many stars in 2024.
