The season is only a week old and there was already a difficult decision to make at the top spot.
Bolingbrook lost to Peoria Central 58-56 in overtime on Friday in Decatur. Leshawn Stowers a Miami (Ohio) recruit, scored 39 points to lead the Lions to the win.
For the past two days, I expected to drop the Raiders from No. 1 but I changed my mind this afternoon. Bolingbrook was without point guard Trey Brost, who has an ankle injury. And the loss wasn't to a local team. The Raiders receive a mulligan, for now.
However, I reserve the right to completely change my mind after the Chicago Elite Classic this weekend. Warren and Kenwood have strong claims to No. 1 and could grab the top spot next week (the two teams play on Saturday at UIC) even if Bolingbrook beats Kankakee.
Four new teams join the rankings: St. Ignatius, Waukegan, Evanston and Bradley-Bourbonnais.
St. Ignatius knocked off Benet. Phoenix Gill and Chris Bolte have started the season strong for the Wolfpack. Evanston took down Rolling Meadows and Fremd. Nick Allen of Bradley-Bourbonnais had a dominant week and the Boilermakers defeated Lemont.
Waukegan was nearly ranked in the preseason. The talented Bulldogs started the season with wins against Barrington and Crystal Lake South. Waukegan is at Warren on Wednesday.
New Trier, Barrington, Rolling Meadows and Lemont drop out. All five teams are likely to return this season.
