Haining Residence is a minimal home located in Haining, China, designed by Shire Space Research. Tasked with creating a home that balances simplicity, openness, brightness, and comfort, the design prioritizes functionality with a restrained approach to aesthetics. To maximize the potential of the space, the entryway and partitions were removed, merging the open kitchen and dining area into a cohesive environment. This intervention enhances natural light flow and establishes a spacious dining setting, improving the overall transparency of the public areas.
The living room was reconfigured to increase its size and integrate a multi-functional zone, fostering interaction between different areas. Structural beams and columns, initially visual distractions, were seamlessly incorporated into the design through thoughtful spatial alignment, creating a more cohesive visual hierarchy. The master bedroom was transformed into a suite, with an expanded walk-in closet offering greater privacy and functionality.
These adjustments aim to enhance the intimacy and practicality of the private spaces while elevating the overall user experience. For younger family members, a playful and adaptable environment was designed, incorporating lively colors and diverse furnishings to create a space that is both nurturing and dynamic. The design also features carefully selected industrial elements to enrich the material palette, adding depth and texture to daily living.
