AFC Fylde Head Coach Kevin Phillips was left frustrated after his side fell to a 2-0 defeat in South London against Sutton United.
Speaking to Coasters TV, Phillips said: “It was a classic game of two half. I made five changes from midweek and we gave them all the messages and all the tactical work required.
“We knew it was going to be a tough place to come but straight from the warm up, I had a good feeling about today and we went out and played some really good stuff in the first half.
“We moved the ball well, got into some really good areas and defended well. Yes, Ben’s has had a couple of saves to make but they’re a good side who will hurt you on transition.
“We was just waiting for someone to put the ball in the net and it didn’t happen. From my point of view, it’s really frustrating again. The message to the players has been the same for a while now, that we need to be more clinical in the final third and if we are, it could’ve been a different story. So today was really frustrating, especially to come in at half time 0-0 because they weren’t at it and you could see that from their players’ reaction. They were arguing at half time and their Manager was getting frustrated and it’s about asking our players at half time to produce the same levels.
“We knew what to expect and we knew Sutton would want to be on the front foot in the second half with a higher intensity and the question was ‘can we deal with it?’ and the simple answer was no. We sensed the goal was going to come against us and I’ve seen the goals back, they’re two poor goals from our point of view and two goals we never seem to get.
“Again, I’m coming in at the end frustrated so it’s another loss which hurts and should hurt the players. There are lots of positive from the first half but you can’t play for 45 minutes, you have to keep the concentration levels for the entire game and we haven’t and we was punished.”
