NEW YORK (PIX11) – If you didn’t find everything you were looking for on Black Friday, you’ll have another chance on Small Business Saturday.
The annual shopping event, which sits between Black Friday and Cyber Monday, offers opportunities to find unique gifts and highlights the role small businesses play in building community.
There are almost 220,000 diverse small businesses in New York City, half of which are immigrant-owned, according to Assemblymember Jenifer Rajkumar.
To help encourage New Yorkers to shop small, the city launched an online map “Shop Your City,” which lists and categorizes diverse businesses in each borough.
Along with the map, here are some small business holiday markets that are worth checking out on Saturday.
This holiday market returns for the eighth year in the Flatbush neighborhood of Brooklyn, also known as “Little Caribbean.” From now through Dec. 29, shops will be on display from more than 30 artisans from the Caribbean and Latine diaspora. Shoppers will find unique gifts, home decor, and food from countries like Jamaica, Haiti, Puerto Rico, Trinidad, Barbados, and more.
This fifth annual pop-up gives shoppers a taste of Bed-Stuy’s various crafters, creatives, and small business owners. After perusing through the pop-up shoppers can hop on a trolly to travel through the neighborhood’s shopping corridor. Performances from the Brooklyn United Marching Band and Brooklyn Ballet will also help put visitors in the holiday spirit.
For the 10th year, this interactive retail crawl invites visitors to check out 32 participating stores and get a passport stamp with each purchase. Those who get 10 stamps can return their passports to The Brass Owl boutique and be entered to win prizes like tote bags, gift cards, and Broadway shows. The retail crawl runs through Dec. 4 and more information can be found online.
