'He saw an opportunity': Analyst says key Trump ally poised to take over as king of MAGA
Elon Musk’s motive for aligning himself with Donald Trump and MAGA world may not be as clear cut as it seems, according to a political analyst who said the tech billionaire has positioned himself as the new owner of the Republican Party and MAGA movement.
Think of Musk as the “man behind the curtain,” said political strategist Chai Komanduri, except “he is dancing and prancing in front of the curtain.”
“Trump 2.0 is very much looking like Elon Musk 1.0, he has taken over Trump and MAGA and the Republican Party in a manner that is very similar to the way Trump and MAGA took over the Republican Party 8-10 years ago,” Komanduri said on Friday.

Komanduri went on to explain during an appearance on MSNBC that the strategy behind how Musk engrained himself as a Trump-aligned political figure came as “he saw a very clear investment opportunity.”
“The Republican Party is led by an elderly man who is increasingly diluted, distracted and extremely greedy,” Komanduri said. “He saw an opportunity here also with the fact that there is no clear MAGA successor, and he said, ‘the Republican Party is there for the taking, I just have to do a deal with Trump and then it'll be mine,’ and that's exactly what has occurred here.”
Komanduri added that the new quasi-governmental agency that Musk will lead – the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) – and his association with Dogecoin cryptocurrency – is further evidence of his influence over Trump and his new administration.
“Elon Musk owns the Republican Party in the way that Donald Trump owned the Republican Party 10 years ago,” he concluded.
