A gang of women is targeting single Chinese men who wish to get married. These women extort money from bachelor men. Now, the Chinese Police have taken cognisance of such incidents.
A few women of the gang earned 300,000 Yuan (approximately Rs 35 lakh) within three months. According to the South China Morning Post, A probe has been initiated against these women in the south-West China region.
According to a statement released by the officials in Guizhou province, a police station has received over 180 complaints of matchmaking fraud since March last year.
The report cited that these women took an office on rent in posh locality in an attempt to build a trust among men. The employees focused on searching for single men while the rest of the staff was monitoring the recruitment of new women in the gang. Most of the women were in debt and widows and they were convinced by the staff members.
A few men agreed to marry the women of the gang after meeting them. After the meeting, the men were asked to pay lakhs of yuan and signed a contract with the agency. These marriages are called ‘flash weddings’ where the bride often flees or goes missing. Later, these women put pressure on men to take divorce.
The report mentioned that a woman earned 300,000 lakh yuan through many flash weddings within three months. The report further stated that a woman registered her marriage with a man last December, but within a few months she accused the man of torturing her and filed a divorce over domestic violence. She did not return 170,000 yuan of the bride’s value , including the car and his assets.
