Yang Min-hyuk has now confirmed when he will be flying to London to join up with the Tottenham squad after completing his season with Gangwon FC.
Tottenham’s initial plan was for Yang to link up with their squad in January so that the winger could be at Hotspur Way for the second half of the season.
However, it has since been widely reported that Spurs have changed their mind and have asked the 18-year-old to arrive in North London in December.
One can understand why the Lilywhites have made that decision, with two of their attackers, Richarlison and Wilson Odobert, now out with long-term injuries.
Yang himself has now confirmed that Tottenham have indeed requested him to arrive sooner than initially planned.
After playing his final game for Gangwon FC in the K-League, in which he netted the match-winner, the teenager revealed that he will fly to London on December 16.
Speaking to Yonhap News Agency, he said: “I will leave (for England) on December 16. Tottenham wanted me to come over early. So I will take some time off before heading over. I will focus on getting acclimated as soon as possible.”
While Yang seems like an exciting talent, Spurs fans who are expecting him to get minutes as soon as he arrives might be disappointed.
Football.London’s Alasdair Gold explained earlier this month that the youngster is not expected to have a prominent first-team role in his initial months at Tottenham.
The journalist revealed that Postecoglou is cognisant of the fact that the winger is coming off his first year of professional football and will thus slowly ease him into proceedings so that he has time to adapt to his new surroundings.
