Vernon Vipers (7-10-4) vs. Coquitlam Express (12-7-2-1)
Tonight at 7:00 PM | Poirier Sports & Leisure Centre, Coquitlam
The Vernon Vipers embark on the first leg of their three-game road trip tonight as they face the Coquitlam Express in a rare matchup. It’s the first and only meeting of the season between these two teams and just the second in the last five years.
The Vipers are riding the momentum of a thrilling 3-2 overtime win against Salmon Arm on Sunday. Shea Busch was the hero, scoring a shorthanded goal in the first period and capping it off with the game-winner in overtime. Corban Almen also found the back of the net, while goaltender Jari Kykkanen secured his first BCHL victory, making 25 saves on 27 shots.
On the other side, the Coquitlam Express are looking to bounce back after two consecutive losses, most recently a 5-1 defeat in Victoria on Saturday. David Brandes scored the lone goal for the Express, and netminder Eric Young stopped 31 of 35 shots in the loss.
Both teams come in with similar form over their last 10 games.
The Vipers will look to capitalize on Coquitlam’s recent struggles and build on their strong defensive play.
