The Gill Winter series starts on the 1st of December and we have some changes to announce. First, all of the new high visibility buoys have now been laid. These include a re-positioned old buoy and two new ones. The old one is T, which used to be tucked round the back of the water tower and had been missing for some time. In fact, hardly anyone realised it was missing because it was so rarely used. This has now been moved in front of the tower, where it is hoped to be more useful for normal club racing. The two new buoys are Y and Z and are also towards the western end of the lake. All three have been put on temporary moorings so we can review their usefulness and adjust if necessary prior to going on permanent moorings. The new buoys are able to accept a flag to show which ones are in use – the flags being available from the Coxswain’s shed. Race teams are encouraged to make use of the flags. Many thanks to the volunteers who have been laying the new buoys. You can view and print an updated map of the buoys here.
Racers should also note that two changes have been made to the Sis for the Winter Series. The first one is that we are reverting back to the first start being at minute 3 on the number board. This gives boats a bit more time to check the course board and then keep clear of the boats in start 1. The second change is that we are reintroducing the downwind gate on the W/L course.
