COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – Police have arrested a suspect wanted in connection with a man's death in a north Columbus city park.
Arrested Tuesday was 21-year-old Daveon Murphy, who is accused of fatally shooting 20-year-old Anthony Wise Monday night in Weinland Park, located between North 4th Street and Summit Street, adjacent to an elementary school.
Police said that around 8:30 p.m., an ongoing conflict escalated between Wise and a group of other individuals. Witnesses reported that the group was gathered at a shelter house before Murphy allegedly pulled out a gun and began firing.
Wise was taken to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 9:10 p.m.
On Wednesday, Murphy, charged with murder, was issued a $2 million bond in Franklin County Municipal Court. He is next scheduled to appear before a judge on Dec. 6 for a preliminary hearing.
