Tottenham Hotspur welcome Roma to N17 on Thursday evening as they look to bounce back from their last European defeat at the hands of Galatasaray.
Let’s take a look at our predicted XI for the Europa League fixture:
Goalkeeper – Fraser Forster: Ange Postecoglou may have been tempted to rotate his keeper had Guglielmo Vicario not picked up a long-term injury. However, he will likely want to freshen Forster up with some minutes ahead of the weekend.
Right-back – Archie Gray: Pedro Porro is due a much-needed rest after his non-stop minutes for Spurs and Spain over the past month. While Gray needs minutes in midfield, he fills in again at right-back for now.
Centre-back – Radu Dragusin: With Cristian Romero still out injured, Spurs call upon Dragusin again on the right side. Fans will be hoping for a performance more like Man City and less like Galatasaray.
Centre-back – Ben Davies: With news that he could extend his contract by an extra year, Mr Reliable Ben Davies fills in for Micky Van de Ven at left-centre-back once more.
Left-back – Destiny Udogie: With Porro getting a rest, it is Udogie’s turn to step up and start in Europe. Spurs really do need a second-choice left-back though.
Pivot midfielder – Rodrigo Bentancur: With his seven-match domestic ban, Bentancur is all but guaranteed to start in Europe for Tottenham for the foreseeable future.
Central midfielder – Lucas Bergvall: Yet to hit the ground running in a Spurs shirt but European minutes are a valuable chance for Bergvall to show what he can do.
Central midfielder – James Maddison: He will be buzzing after his birthday-boy Man of the Match display against Man City and it seems sensible to let him ride that high with another start.
Right-midfielder – Brennan Johnson: Dejan Kulusevski gets a rest this week after his tireless efforts, while Brennan Johnson is fresh after being benched against Man City.
Striker – Dominic Solanke: Unfortunately, with Richarlison injured and Lankshear suspended, it is up to Solanke to lead the line yet again – unless Ange throws Timo Werner or Son up front, of course.
Left-midfielder – Heung-min Son: Came off early against Man City again as Postecoglou looks to manage his minutes, so he will be dying to put in a good performance against Roma.
