As the holiday shopping season officially kicks off, Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and Cyber Monday are the most popular days in the states for online sales. Every year during this weekend, retailers generate billions of dollars in revenue from anxious customers looking for the best deals.
According to the Pew Research Center, nearly 6 in 10 Black adults consider supporting Black businesses. However, despite the growth of Black-owned businesses in recent years, they still represent a small portion of the country’s overall number of firms and revenue.
In honor of the season of giving, here are a few black-owned businesses to check out as you start your holiday shopping.
“Black-owned line of dolls, puzzles and color books launched by a young 12-year-old Black girl CEO. Her largest doll, Bella, is a beautiful 18-inch doll with natural curly hair.”
“Dedicated to offering high-quality, all-natural hair and skin products, their customers can believe in and feel confident using them. They achieve that goal by creating blends that do not contain parabens, sodium lauryl sulfate, sodium laureth sulfate, phthalates, propylene glycol, mineral oil, PBA, petroleum, paraffin DEA, synthetic color, or animal products.”
This Black-owned company presents the first adult coloring book to highlight the beauty of black women and celebrate those women as being successful entrepreneurs. Since launching in May of 2018, the book has been featured in Black Enterprise, Curly Nikki, and MadameNoire. This book is for business creatives and CEOs “because we should all feel inspired.”
“Black History Flash Cards designed to combat the miseducation and suppression of Black achievements around the globe, and Black history coloring books that focus on some of the amazing entrepreneurs in modern history who have excelled via ingenuity, perseverance, and drive.”
