The co-owner of IPL franchise Punjab Kings (PBKS), Preity Zinta, asked for an apology from Shreyas Iyer, after the star Indian batter almost became the most expensive player in the history of IPL auctions.
In a video shared on the official Instagram of JioCinema, Zinta joked about the word ‘record-breaking’ and then immediately apologised to Iyer as he was a few lakhs short for the record.
Shreyas had the base price of Rs. 2 crore, which rose soon. Iyer entered the IPL 2025 mega auctions as one of the player who was in the wish list of a lot of franchises. rishabh Pant currently holds the record for being the most expensive player, who was bought by Lucknow Super Giants for a massive sum of Rs. 27 crore.
When asked about the possibility of players taking high bids, Preity responded with a surprised expression and gave a hint of her not expecting such high staked at the auction.
“Well, hamesha aisa laga tha ki jo bhi IPL mein, it’ll be record-breaking. Par 26 crore, yes socha tha (Sorry) 27 crore, Sorry Shreyas! Kuch toh tax mein katega.” (Well, I have always felt anything is record-breaking in the IPL. But 26 crore, yes, thought about it. (Sorry) 27 crore, Sorry Shreyas! A portion will go to tax.),” Preity Zinta told brodcasters.
Punjab Kings entered the auction with the biggest purse of Rs. 110.5 crore, and have built a strong base for the next season as they aim to clinch their maiden title win. Preity Zinta expressed how she was satisfied with the new players taken by the team , as she said that they have completed 90 percent of the players they had in their target.
