Hallmark Channel fans may know Patti Murin best for her work in movies like Love on Iceland or In Merry Measure, but she got her start on Broadway!
The musical theatre actress is opening up about her experience playing Glinda on the National Tour of Wicked and how she has a “complicated” relationship with the show because of her ex-husband.
Patti wrote a lengthy post on Instagram to talk about her experience with the show amid the release of the movie.
“First let me say: This movie is goddamn perfect. Then let me say: I’ve had a complicated relationship with Wicked,” Patti began the post.

Patti continued, “I played Glinda on the tour from 2012-2013, and my goodness did I love it. I learned how to sing soprano for this role. I got to go to Hawaii for almost two months. I made some of my dearest friends in the world. But the end of my contract coincided with my first husband [Curtis Holbrook, pictured below] telling me that he wanted to get divorced. He broke this news to me the day I had to perform for [director] Joe Mantello to essentially audition for Broadway. I barely remember that show.”
“The powers that be in NY told my agent that I would be next in line to take over for Glinda on Broadway, but the offer never came through. They eventually said they didn’t think I was in a good place for it, and I was devastated,” Patti wrote. “And so, years passed and life went on, and I stopped waiting for the call. I watched as my peers (brilliantly) played the role that was my Broadway dream and wondered why they never wanted me on Broadway.”
She continued, “But the reality is that Wicked gave me the life I have today. It gave me and my ex-husband permission to separate and find ourselves. And the lack of an offer to do Wicked on Broadway in 2013 meant that I could do Shakespeare in the Park. Which meant that I could reconnect with [now husband] Colin Donnell (pictured below), start dating him, marry him, and have two gorgeous girls with him. I also met Nicole Parker and Dee Roscioli, who are my sisters for life, and who I will always claim as my superheroes and my fierce heart warriors.”
“Wicked gave more to me than it took from me, and I have finally grown up enough to let go of the egotistical insecurities I had surrounding my experience with the show. I’m just humbled to be a teeny tiny part of the Wicked world. I will most likely never do this show on Broadway. (Pretty sure they’re not gonna call after 12 years ????) But I am so honored to have been a Glinda and to have shared this beautiful story with anyone who needed to hear it,” Patti said.
She concluded, “This movie is just sensational. It is everything you could want from a movie musical, from the opening credits to the final riff. I think I’ll go see it again tomorrow ????.”
