NEW YORK (PIX11) -- It won't just be the roads and airlines jam-packed this week.
New York City officials are anticipating high commuter traffic, particularly towards the end of the week due to the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and Black Friday.
To prepare for the expected increase in public transit users, the MTA has announced additional services on the New York City Subway, the Long Island Rail Road, and Metro-North.
See the additional service changes below.
Thursday
- Subways and buses will run on a Sunday schedule.
- Additional service will be on the 1 line and the 42 St. Shuttle in the early morning for the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.
- Some station entrances and exits along the parade route will be closed. A, C, and D trains will not stop at 81 Street - Museum of Natural History from 4 to 11 a.m.
- Bus service may be disrupted on routes near the parade route. The 79th Street Transverse Road will be closed from noon Wednesday to Thursday.
- The Long Island Rail Road will operate on a holiday/weekend schedule.
- There will be 7 extra rains on the Babylon Branch, the Ronkonkoma/Farmingdale Branch, and 1 extra train on the Huntington Branch.
- Metro-North Railroad will operate a regular weekday service.
- Nine additional early getaway trains, including three on the Hudson Line, two on the Harlem Line, and four on the New Haven Line, will depart Grand Central between 1:15 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.
- Metro-North’s West of Hudson service will operate on a weekend schedule with two additional trains on the Port Jervis Line for service before and after the parade.
- The Staten Island Railway will operate on a Saturday schedule.
- The Hudson Rail Link buses at Spuyten Duyvil and Riverdale and the ferries between Ossining-Haverstraw and Beacon-Newburgh will not operate.
Black Friday
- The New York City Subway will operate on a regular weekday schedule.
- Most New York City Transit and MTA Bus Company buses will run on reduced weekday schedules. Some limited-stop services will not run.
- Metro-North will operate on an enhanced Saturday schedule
- Additional inbound service will be provided in the morning and outbound service in the afternoon to accommodate commuters and Black Friday shoppers, with lower off-peak fares in effect throughout the day.
- On Metro-North's West of Hudson lines, the Port Jervis Line will operate an enhanced weekend schedule with three additional trains
- The Pascack Valley Line will operate a normal weekend schedule.
- The Long Island Rail Road will operate on a regular weekday schedule, with lower, off-peak fares in effect all day.
- The Staten Island Railway will operate on a regular weekday schedule.
