Spurs may need to add a goalkeeper to their squad after the recent news about an ankle injury sustained by Guglielmo Vicario. Fortunately, there are a few free agents who might interest Ange Postecoglou.
Spurs confirmed on Monday that Vicario had gone under the knife after fracturing his ankle, with the Tottenham number one expected to be sidelined for an extended period.
While Fraser Forster will temporarily take the gloves, Spurs will be in big trouble if the Englishman were to pick up an injury or be sent off as neither Alfie Whiteman nor Brandon Austin have played a single game for the club.
That might thus force the Lilywhites to take a closer look a the free agent market to see who they can bring through the door.
The list of free-agent goalkeepers on Transfermarkt contains several shot-stoppers who are experienced at the highest level. However, it should be clarified that Spurs cannot sign a free agent until the January transfer window opens.
This includes former Real Madrid goalkeeper Keylor Navas, who has been a free agent since his contract with PSG was terminated back in the summer.
The 32-year-old Edgar Badia, who made 154 appearances for Elche across La Liga and the Segunda Division, before moving on from the club this summer, is also available.
Former Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius, who has been a backup goalkeeper at Newcastle United over the last two years, has been without a club since parting ways with the Magpies in the summer.
Another player who might interest Tottenham is Czech international Tomas Koubek, whose contract at Augsburg ended back in June.
Another suggestion some fans have put forward is the idea of turning to former Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.
Lloris left Spurs at the start of 2024 to join Los Angeles FC, but according to Transfermarkt, the Frenchman’s contract at the MLS club runs out next month.
With the MLS season already over, perhaps Spurs might consider calling the 37-year-old to see if he can help them out.
