Palestine has released statistics showing that since the beginning of the war in Gaza, at least 1,000 healthcare workers have been killed, and over 300 healthcare workers have been arrested.
The Palestinian Information Office in Gaza issued a statement saying, “Since the onset of the war in Gaza, Israel has targeted the health sector in the Strip by destroying and setting fire to hospitals and medical centers, rendering them non-operational.”
The Palestinian Government Information Office in Gaza emphasized that over 310 doctors and nurses have also been arrested by Israeli military forces.
On Sunday, Palestinian media reported an Israeli airstrike on the Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza, injuring the hospital’s director.
This comes at a time when the International Criminal Court (ICC) has issued an arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, accusing him of committing war crimes.
The unprecedented arrest warrant from the ICC judges has sparked widespread reactions. The European Union’s foreign policy chief stated that the warrant is not political and that all 27 EU member states should enforce it. On the other hand, U.S. President Joe Biden, whose country is not a member of the ICC, called the arrest warrant “unacceptable” and reaffirmed America’s continued support for Israel.
The situation in Gaza remains dire, with healthcare workers increasingly caught in the crossfire. The destruction of hospitals and clinics has left many residents without access to medical care, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis.
The international community is divided on how to address these ongoing atrocities. While some countries, including members of the European Union, support the ICC’s actions, others, like the United States, continue to defend Israel’s actions in Gaza.
The lack of a unified response underscores the complexity of the situation, and the ongoing violence and suffering in Gaza only highlight the urgent need for a resolution to the conflict.
