CADBURY has revealed it will be discontinuing its fan favourite Festive Friens biscuits in the lead-up to Christmas this year.
Chocolate lovers were naturally left devastated by the news as it joins a long list of favourites being axed including the Dairy Milk Mousse Snowman.
Aldi has launched it’s own version of Cadbury axed chocolate treat[/caption] Shoppers are already racing to get their hands on them[/caption]The confectionery giant confirmed: “Festive Friends aren’t returning this year.”
People were quick to take to social media to express their dismay, with one writing, ” I just found out Cadbury‘s has discontinued festive Friends, and I am MAD.”
Another revealed: “Cadbury is no longer making Festive Friends. Heartbroken.”
However, disappointed fans no longer need to fret as Aldi are offering an alternative to keep the Christmas spirit going.
Aldi has come to the rescue after launching their own version called Merry Mates.
The milk chocolate-covered biscuits have many characters on the biscuits including a snowman, reindeer and of course, Santa.
And they cost just a fraction of the price, the multi-pack contains seven small bags of the biscuits and costs just £1.39.
They’re ideal for on-the-go snacking or placing in your kids lunchbox for a cheeky sweet treat.
The launch of the delightful dupe is already causing a stir on social media, with shoppers exclaiming “Festive Friends aren’t being sold by Cadbury’s this year – this might be the closest we can get!”
While another said: “Aldi’s take on Festive Friends, we did have a giggle.”
We’ve seen the change or discontinuation of chocolate treats hit Brits hard in the last year.
Shoppers were in uproar in January after noticing Dairy Milk Marvellous Mix-ups with Oreo have been axed from shelves.
They were also left heartbroken when they discovered the Cadbury Dairy Milk 30 per cent Less Sugar had also been scrapped, as well as Peanut Caramel Crisp Bars.
People were also left gutted after Cadbury announced they were axing its Dairy Milk Winter Orange Crisp Chocolate Bar this festive season.
The chocolate biscuits are available to buy in Aldi stores now and throughout the festive period.
We all love a bit of chocolate from now and then, but you don't have to break the bank buying your favourite bar.
Consumer reporter Sam Walker reveals how to cut costs…
Go own brand – if you’re not too fussed about flavour and just want to supplant your chocolate cravings, you’ll save by going for the supermarket’s own brand bars.
Shop around – if you’ve spotted your favourite variety at the supermarket, make sure you check if it’s cheaper elsewhere.
Websites like Trolley.co.uk let you compare prices on products across all the major chains to see if you’re getting the best deal.
Look out for yellow stickers – supermarket staff put yellow, and sometimes orange and red, stickers on to products to show they’ve been reduced.
They usually do this if the product is coming to the end of its best-before date or the packaging is slightly damaged.
Buy bigger bars – most of the time, but not always, chocolate is cheaper per 100g the larger the bar.
So if you’ve got the appetite, and you were going to buy a hefty amount of chocolate anyway, you might as well go bigger.
