Timothée Chalamet to receive Arlington Artist of the Year Award at Santa Barbara International Film Festival
Timothée Chalamet‘s awards mantel just keeps getting bigger and bigger.
The 28-year-old American actor is set to receive the Arlington Artist of the Year Award at the 2025 Santa Barbara International Film Festival (SBIFF). This news comes less than a week after he and his “A Complete Unknown” director James Mangold were named as the Visionary Tribute honorees at the upcoming Gotham Awards. He previously won the Breakthrough Actor Award for “Call Me by Your Name” (2017) at the Gothams, Hollywood Film Awards, and National Board of Review, among other kudos.
Chalamet will accept the Arlington Artist of the Year Award during an in-person tribute and career retrospective on Tuesday, Feb. 11. The 40th annual SBIFF event will highlight his performances in three recent feature films: “A Complete Unknown,” in which he portrays music legend Bob Dylan, “Dune: Part Two,” director Denis Villeneuve‘s epic sequel, and “Wonka,” the 2023 musical fantasy comedy.
The festival’s executive director Roger Durling said, “I’m a big fan of Bob Dylan, and I was blown away by Chalamet’s transformation in ‘A Complete Unknown.’ His performance is galvanizing and electrifying, especially coming on the heels of the major box office triumph earlier this year with ‘Dune: Part Two.’ Truly, this is the age of Chalamet.”
Chalamet has one Academy Award nomination to his name for “Call Me by Your Name” in Best Actor, losing to Gary Oldman for “Darkest Hour.” He is currently predicted to receive a Best Actor Oscar bid for “A Complete Unknown,” per Gold Derby’s odds. To date, he has starred in five Best Picture Oscar nominees: “Call Me by Your Name,” “Lady Bird” (2017), “Little Women” (2019), “Dune: Part One” (2021), and “Don’t Look Up” (2021).
The Santa Barbara film fest will take place between Feb. 4 and Feb. 15. As usual, attendees will keep busy with screenings, filmmaker Q&As, industry panels, and celebrity tributes. It will be held at SBIFF’s Riviera Theatre and its new Film Center, plus the historic Arlington Theatre.
The official review embargo for “A Complete Unknown” lifts on Dec. 10, but you can already read some online reactions. The film opens in theaters on Dec. 25.
