President-elect Donald Trump, fresh off beating Vice President Kamala Harris in the presidential election, is favored to defeat her a second time — in Time Person of the Year.
Editors at Time magazine each year name a person or people who "wielded the most influence in the previous 12 months." Past winners include Elon Musk, climate activist Greta Thunberg, Trump — who won in 2016 — and even Adolf Hitler and Joseph Stalin.
The long-standing feature has been a staple since 1928, when “Charles Augustus Lindbergh, who had soloed the Atlantic in only 33 hours and 39 minutes, was the hero of 1927.”

"The title goes to 'the person or persons who most affected the news and our lives, for good or ill, and embodied what was important about the year, for better or for worse," former Managing Editor Walter Isaacson wrote in 1998.
This year, Trump is the favorite to be named Person of the Year with 64% odds, according to the odd aggregating site OddsChecker.com. Harris is a second-favorite at 44%, followed by Yulia Navalnaya, Xi Jinping and Mark Zuckerberg, at 12.5%, 4% and 3%, respectively. Implied odds in gambling typically do not add up to 100%, and often exceed that number.
Beyoncé, President Joe Biden and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese also have an outsized chance to become this year's Person of the Year.
