Thief caught on camera stealing package mid-delivery at NY home
MASSAPEQUA PARK – A local family has a holiday warning about porch pirates after a brazen incident recently caught on a home Ring camera in Massapequa Park.
In the video, a UPS driver is chatting with the homeowner when suddenly someone runs up, snatches the package right off the ground in front of them, and runs away. The homeowner, who just had knee replacement surgery, fell giving chase. After a second delivery driver joined the chase, the suspect dropped the package and sped off in a car.
Erica Bernard told PIX11 News on Monday she is relieved her father is OK. She said the delivery was meant for her – sort of.
She believes the suspect got ahold of her personal information, including a credit card, and had items delivered to the house that she never ordered. Bernard said the suspect ordered items to the house on at least three occasions and then swiped them. This was the fourth instance.
She believes the suspect received email alerts about when the items were shipped so they could easily track and steal them.
Nassau County police are reviewing the video and searching for the suspect.
