The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) said in a press release the boil water advisory was issued for Rural Water District #10 customers after a water main break caused a loss in system pressures. The KDHE says the advisory will be in effect until the risk of bacterial contamination is resolved.

Another water boil advisory remains in effect for Jefferson County. The KDHE issued an advisory at 11:40 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 22 for the Perry Place Mobile Home Park. The KDHE said the advisory was issued after a waterline break that resulted in a loss of pressure in the water system.

Residents are encouraged to follow these steps while the advisory is in effect:

If your tap water appears dirty, flush the water lines by letting the water run until it
clears.
Boil water for one minute prior to drinking or food preparation or use bottled water.
Dispose of ice cubes and do not use ice from a household automatic icemaker.
Disinfect dishes and other food contact surfaces by immersion for at least one
minute in clean tap water that contains one teaspoon of unscented household
bleach per gallon of water.
Water used for bathing does not generally need to be boiled. Supervision of children
is necessary while bathing so that water is not ingested. Persons with cuts or severe
rashes may wish to consult their physicians.
