Players inside the Boston Bruins dressing room were well-aware the role they played in the dismissal of head coach Jim Montgomery.
And those same players apparently are happy Montgomery landed on his feet so quickly.
Montgomery revealed he received texts messages from Bruins players after he was named head coach of the St. Louis Blues. Montgomery was named the Blues head coach merely five days after his exit in Boston.
“Those are the emotional swings that I talked about that make it crazy,” Montgomery told reporters at Madison Square Garden on Monday, per a team-provided video. “I received text messages from current Blues players when I was let go in Boston, and I’ve received text messages from Bruins players when I got the job here.
“That’s why I talk about why it’s a special game with the relationships you build with people.”
Montgomery credited the relationships he built in St. Louis as a key factor in his hiring. He served as the Blues assistant coach before he was hired as the Bruins head coach.
Montgomery referred to it as a “whirlwind” of a week, the congratulatory messages from Bruins players surely playing a role.
