GUILDERLAND, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The holidays are fast approaching, which means many Capital Region holiday traditions are returning, including the Stuyvesant Plaza Holiday Strolls. This annual tradition marked its first day on Sunday for all families to enjoy.
“The holiday stroll is an annual tradition at Stuyvesant Plaza that we are truly honored to make a magical experience for all the families of the Capital Region," said Leah Homkey, marketing manager for Stuyvesant Plaza.
As part of the holiday tradition, the plaza is offering free horse drawn carriage rides from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. around the shopping area. These rides will happen every Sunday, except for the first weekend in December, until Dec. 22.
“I know some of the horses names, that one’s Jazzy," said Dominick Oathout, a Mayfield resident.
Jazzy gave rides to dozens of families on Sunday, spreading plenty of holiday cheer despite some bumps in the road.
"Yeah, a little bumpy but it was really good," said Kennedy, a Guilderland resident.
Plus, horses aren't the only thing coming to town. Stuyvesant Plaza guests were also joined by Santa Claus! Folks could sign up for a five minute photo session with Santa to help support the Girls Incs. -- a leadership program to help girls succeed.
The festivities don't stop there. Hundreds of people gathered Saturday night to spread holiday cheer at Stuyvesant Plaza's annual tree lighting ceremony. Additionally, it was all for a good cause.
“We had our DJ, Santa, hot cocoa, we really are lucky to be able to have these experiences and provide these fun memories for families around here," said Homkey. "Last night we presented the Guilderland YMCA with a $3,000 check."
Both kids and adults said they enjoy the holidays because they bring everyone together.
“Everyone loves the holidays it kind of just brightens up the area and everyone gets warm and fuzzy inside," said Homkey.
“It’s fun to see everyone to see everyone get together,” said Dominick.
