For literal decades, Keira Knightley has been known for her dramatic and daring style. When she first came onto the scene, she wasn’t afraid of metallic gowns, low-rise jeans, and showing off her midriff whenever she wanted. As the years went by, she’s still kept the daring aspect, often trying out new styles during rare red carpet appearances. However, in a recent, and rare, interview, she talked about the one major way her style has changed after becoming a mom of two, and it’s so relatable.
On Nov 23, The Sunday Times released an interview with Knightley, entitled: “Keira Knightley: ‘Turning 40? It looks rather great,'” and in it, she talks about her iconic red carpet fashion, and how motherhood made her style more practical.
She talked about how she always has a pair of Dr. Martens boots on and how she doesn’t remember how to walk in heels. “I’ve got a brown pair and a black pair, and it’s very hard to ever take them off. I’ve no idea how to walk in heels any more,” she said, making every mom who switched to boots feel seen.
It’s so cool to hear how fashion icons changed their looks to a new form of iconic after becoming a parent, and it just shows that style never dies.
For those who don’t know, the Oscar-nominated star shares two children with her husband of nearly 10 years, James Righton. They first welcomed Edie in May 2015, and fast-forward to Oct 2019, they welcomed their second daughter Delilah.
In a previous interview for Vogue for her new true crime film Boston Strangler, Knightley revealed multiple rare insights into how she parents her two “fantastically strange” daughters.
“I’m not naturally a structured person, but my kids find structure really helpful. We’re quite a timetabled house, which is literally the opposite of my entire personality,” she said. “I am exactly not how I imagined myself to be as a mum. I thought I’d be a hell of a lot more hippy than I am. And I’m actually not hippy at all.”
