LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) -- The UL Ragin Cajuns improved to 9-2 overall and 6-1 in Sun Belt football play with a 51-30 win over Troy at Cajun Field Saturday night.
Louisiana led 34-14 at the half, but the Trojans (3-8 overall, 2-8 Sun Belt) scored two consecutive touchdowns, with 2-point conversions, to make it a one-score game, 37-30, early in the fourth quarter.
That momentum was short-lived, however, as Robert Williams took the ensuing kickoff 96 yards for a touchdown, and the Trojans never threatened again.
Cajuns quarterback Chandler Fields completed 18 of his 24 passes for a career-high 323 yards and 2 touchdowns. Tavion Smith and Lance LeGendre each had a touchdown reception.
Running back Bill Davis had 65 yards rushing and three touchdowns.
Cornerback Keyon Martin had two first-half interceptions for the Cajuns, and kicker Kenneth Almendares had field goals of 46, 38 and 26 yards to go with his six extra points in the game.
Troy QB Matthew Caldwell threw for four touchdowns and two interceptions, and Damien Tayler led the Trojan rushing attack with 67 yards on the ground.
The win keeps the Cajuns atop the Sun Belt-West standings, with a berth in the Sun Belt Championship Game on the line in the regular-season finale next week at UL-Monroe.
