QUEENS, N.Y. (PIX11) – A woman died after she jumped out of a moving car and was hit by a vehicle in New York City on Saturday, police said.
The incident happened on the eastbound Long Island Expressway near the Kissena Boulevard overpass in Queens around 1:40 a.m., according to the NYPD.
A 32-year-old woman who was a passenger in the car opened the door and jumped from the vehicle, police said.
The driver of another vehicle traveling eastbound on the Long Island Expressway unknowingly hit the woman in the left lane and continued driving, according to police.
The driver of the car the woman jumped out of remained at the scene, police said.
The NYPD identified the victim as Priyanka Sewahni of Oyster Bay, New York.
Police are investigating the incident. It’s unclear at this time why Sewahni jumped out of the car.
