Alabama appeared to have converted the turnover into a touchdown when Jalen Milroe passed to Ryan Williams for a 41-yard touchdown.
On replay review, it was ruled Williams stepped out of bounds at the OU 11-yard line.
The Sooner defense held from there and Alabama settled for a 22-yard field goal by Graham Nicholson to take the lead 3-0 with 3:23 left in the first quarter.
On Oklahoma's ensuing possession, Arnold ran for 28 yards into Alabama territory.
The Sooners ran a trick play a few plays later, with receiver Brenen Thompson throwing a pass, but it was incomplete to a wide open Bauer Sharp in the end zone.
OU settled for a 39-yard field goal attempt, but Zach Schmit missed it wide left and it stayed 3-0 Bama with 40 seconds left in the first quarter.
