WAYNE Rooney made a brief appearance on I’m A Celebrity Unpacked to praise his wife Coleen’s efforts in the jungle – and hinted he’s be up for a stint himself.
The football legend, who has been with Coleen since they were teenagers, called into the ITV2 spin-off chat show to talk about her efforts so far.
Coleen has been getting to grips with life in the camp, becoming a standout[/caption]He told host Joel Dommett: “She’s a nice person, a warm person, and a very caring person, and I think that’s coming across.
“You know, I think she’s probably in the middle of the older ones and the younger ones, so she’s probably bridging that gap little bit.
“But I think she’s absolutely shown her personality, her character, and I think that’s coming across strong. It’s great to see her in there and see us settling in as well over the last few days.”
Wayne later added his love for the show, and said: “We always said that if we were ever going to do one, that’s the one we’d do. And obviously Coleen’s gone out there to test herself.”
Catching the “we” comment, Joel pushed further, asking if Wayne would ever head to Australia and try out the show himself.
“Maybe, if I’m not working, it’s something I would like to do, but at the minute, obviously, that’s not possible.”
Coleen confirmed before entering the jungle that Wayne would not be there to meet her in Australia.
At the moment, he splits his time between their Cheshire home and Plymouth, where he works as the football club’s manager.
Her oldest two boys will also not be joining her due to school obligations, but the younger two of her four children will make the trip.
He also admitted he has been voting for her to take on one of the iconic Bushtucker Trials.
“Yeah, I’d love to see her do a trial. I’m sure part of the experience of going out there and being part of the show is to do the trials and to test yourself,” Wayne said.
“So obviously, I think Dean doing the trials at the minute is not doing so well. So, I’d love to see Colleen do one, because, I suppose, it’s part of the experience, and I think she’d be great as well. I think she’d be, she’d be really good at the trials.”
Wayne’s wish has since paid off, with Coleen being chosen by the voting public to take part in the next trial alongside Dean McCullough.
