A man who police say they shot after he fired at them during a standoff at a home in Eagle Rock on Friday, Nov. 22 later surrendered, authorities said Saturday.
Officers were dispatched at about 1:45 p.m. Friday to a home in the 5000 block of North La Roda Avenue regarding a man who was having “suicidal ideations and was armed with a firearm,” the Los Angeles Police Department reported.
Arriving officers spotted him on the front porch and stayed at their vehicles to communicate with him.
“One of the officers saw the suspect was still armed with a firearm,” LAPD said in a news release. “The suspect shot in the direction of the officers and there was an exchange of gunfire.”
After police shot him, the man went into the home as additional law enforcement resources were called in, authorities said. Initially, he refused to submit to arrest, but ultimately he surrendered and was taken into custody, police said.
He was transported to a hospital, where his condition was not immediately clear.
Police said the suspect’s handgun was recovered at the scene and no officers were injured.
