It is located in Daytona Beach and has 12 judges.[1][2]The Florida Legislature created the Fifth District Court in 1979. It has jurisdiction over four circuits: the Fourth, Fifth, Seventh, and Eighteenth circuits. The Florida Supreme Court had recommended that the new district include the Tenth Judicial Circuit, but the legislature excluded the circuit. Legislators argued over whether the headquarters would be in Orlando or Daytona Beach, and the latter won out. According to the official court history, House Speaker Hyatt Brown, Senator Edgar Dunn and Majority Leader Sam Bell influenced that decision.
