Prominent MAGA allies Donald Trump Jr., Elon Musk and Joe Rogan collectively took a victory lap Friday over MSNBC after Trump's son jokingly suggested that Musk buy MSNBC amid reports that Comcast is spinning off its cable networks.
Comcast announced Wednesday that it was proceeding with plans to spin off its NBCUniversal cable TV networks, according to the Wall Street Journal. The company will spin off news channels into a new company tentatively named SpinCo, including MSNBC, CNBC, USA, Oxygen, E!, Syfy and Golf Channel.
While the channels aren't for sale, that didn't stop Trump Jr. from taking an opportunity to jab the liberal news outlet MSNBC, which has been a vocal critic of President-elect Donald Trump for years.
"Hey @elonmusk I have the funniest idea ever!!!" Trump Jr. posted Friday morning on X, resharing a post that falsely claimed Comcast put MSNBC up for sale.
Musk, the world's richest person, once bought the social media site Twitter for $44 billion and renamed it X, replied on his app, "How much does it cost?"
Musk's post echoed one he made in December 2017, in which he replied "How much is it?" to someone who told him he should buy Twitter.
"I mean it can’t be much. Look at the ratings," jabbed Trump Jr.
Musk joked that the "most entertaining outcome, especially if ironic, is most likely."
But what began as a troll post from Donald Trump Jr. quickly gained traction with the help of podcaster Rogan and prominent

In a separate Tweet, he wrote: "We invested $800m into @X @elonmusk reporting for duty."
Donald Trump Jr. jumped at the opportunity.
"Let’s do this @shaunmmaguire. It started off as a joke but based on the response it sounds like a mandate," he wrote.
Musk's response caught the attention of Rogan, who took a swipe at prominent MSNBC anchor Rachel Maddow.
"If you buy MSNBC I would like Rachael Maddow’s job. I will wear the same outfit and glasses, and I will tell the same lies," he said.
Trump Jr. supported Rogan's proposal.
"This is getting really interesting. It has to happen," he wrote.
To which Musk replied, "Maybe I should show up there with a sink."
And Trump Jr. added that he, too, wanted to "throw my hat in the ring as well.
"I’ll mimic Lawrence O’Donnell… minus the castration of course. That’s a bridge too far," he said of the MSNBC host.
