Kaia Gerber grew up in Los Angeles with celebrity parents Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber, so her upbringing was markedly different from someone who grew up in the Midwest. That’s why it’s fun to hear about her Hollywood experiences because they are so far from the norm.
The 23-year-old actress revealed to The Hollywood Reporter on Wednesday, Nov. 20 the “most Hollywood thing that have ever happened to” her — and it’s a great story. “Probably that Pamela Anderson was the crossing guard at my elementary school,” revealed Gerber. “She wore the yellow safety vest and everything. I didn’t know how good I had it then.” The news has shocked many fans, who had no idea that Anderson was volunteering at her sons’ school back in the day.
The Last Showgirl star didn’t hide her crossing-guard past from the public either. In 2008, she gushed about her experience on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. “I’m safety patrol on Mondays at my sons’ school with the neon vest and everything. It’s really hot,” she said, per CBS News. “You help the children out to get to school. You help them out of the car and then you shut the door.”
Anderson took her job seriously, even doling out high-fives to the kids before they headed into the building. “They think it’s funny that I’m there doing that,” she added. “I’m a mom. You have to do it, and I love it.” Her kids were slightly older than Gerber when they were attending elementary school together. Anderson shares two sons with her ex-husband, Tommy Lee: Brandon Thomas Lee, 28, and Dylan Jagger Lee, 26.
Of course, Gerber had her own Hollywood moment with a supermodel mom at home. Still, the Palm Royale star sees her as a “mom” versus a fashion icon. “She is a cool mom, and she still embarrasses me constantly,” Gerber told People in November 2023. “But it’s good! It brings me back down to earth… I probably embarrass her constantly as well.”
With Gerber’s career rising quickly in the film community, it’s Crawford who now has her own Hollywood moments with her daughter. “I think when we work together, it’s really no different than if I was working with another professional,” she explained. “I feel like when I’m at work with you, it’s not like, ‘Oh, I am with my daughter. She’s also Kaia and she has her own place in the world.'”
LA might be one of the most unreal places for a kid to grow up — it’s a Hollywood moment every minute of the day.
