MAP: Thanksgiving travel outlook for the PNW and beyond

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- Thanksgiving is less than a week away and the Pacific Northwest has seen some wild weather as of late.

A cooling and drying trend is expected to take place across the Pacific Northwest. This comes as travelers take to the road and skies in the days leading up to Thanksgiving.

The travel forecast is nearly a week out and is subject to change, but most of the weather models are keeping the Pacific Northwest slightly drier and cooler Wednesday through Friday.

Some snowy roads are possible up in elevations as drivers commute over the mountain passes. No additional snow accumulation is expected during the peak travel times when this forecast was made.

Snowy problem spots are possible from eastern Nevada to the eastern plains of Colorado. Snow is possible as far south as northern New Mexico on Wednesday, Nov. 27.

It comes as no surprise that snow is expected to fall around the Great Lakes and at the higher latitudes of the Northeast on Wednesday. That's where chilly temperatures are also expected.

A small cluster of brief snow showers are also possible through the southern sections of Illinois and parts of Missouri. That's all part of a system that's expected to bring a few scattered thunderstorms to the Mississippi River valley and includes parts of eastern Texas.

The driest and sunniest locations will be in Florida, the northwest and southern California. The drier and sunnier weather returns to California after a persistent atmospheric river weakens during the start of next week.
