Gary Neville predicts that Manchester City vs Tottenham will be the game of the weekend for neutrals, with a heap of goals flying in at the Etihad.
Tottenham are often criticised for letting in too many goals. They are frequently punished for vulnerabilities in their tactical approach, however, so are City.
In the absence of Rodri, Manchester City are looking considerably weaker when defending counter-attacks. Son Heung-min and Brennan Johnson both thrive when given space to operate and Dejan Kulusevski has more goal contributions against City than any other English team.
Manchester City will also be looking to attack Tottenham who may be without Micky van de Ven, Cristian Romero and Rodrigo Bentancur. This is a significant reduction in their defensive depth, so it is not surprising that many are expecting this match to contain lots of goals.
Speaking on the Stick to Football Podcast, Gary Neville gave his prediction for the game. Neville said: “I am going 3-2 City. There are going to be goals.”
Joined by Paul Scholes and Roy Keane, the two other former Manchester United players agreed with Neville’s assessment. Keane even suggested the win would be more in Manchester City’s favour with a prediction of 3-1.
In spite of Tottenham historically managing to secure points against Manchester City, pundits rarely make that call before a game. The matches often play out with City dominating possession and chances created, but sometimes, Tottenham are still able to find a way.
It is a matchup which swings between chaotic and expected depending on who wins. Nevertheless, results show that regardless of external predictions, it is a game which always has the possibility of going either way.
