India’s stand-in skipper Jasprit Bumrah terrorized the Australian top-order with sensational deliveries that got the better of them. Bumrah would pick up the first 3 wickets of Australia’s innings after his side managed to put up a total of only 150 runs in the first innings.
The pace spearhead’s first wicket came in the form of debutant Nathan McSweeney, who was sent back to the dugout after scoring 10 runs. However, the initial call from the on-field umpire was of not-out. Bumrah had his doubts about taking the DRS, but eventually got convinced by Kohli, who was pretty sure that there was no inside edge involved.
The stump mic caught the chatter between the players and Kohli was heard asking Bumrah to take the DRS. “Pad pe lagi hai pehle, lele lele. (It has hit the pad first, take it take it),” Kohli told Bumrah.
The result turned out out to be brilliant as 3 reds popped up on the giant screen when the decision was reviewed which meant that Team India had got the breakthrough that they so desperately wanted.
Earlier, the Indian top-order collapsed in front of the Australian bowlers who at one stage, restricted India to 73/6. However, it was the 45-run partnership between Rishabh Pant and debutant Nitish Kumar Reddy that saw India cross the 100-run mark.
The Men in Blue would eventually be bowled out for 150, however they would still end the day on a high by restricting the hosts to 67/7 by the end of day’s play. With Australia still trailing by 83 runs, India will try their best to at least take a lead of at least 50 runs heading into their second innings.
