Bindi Irwin’s daughter Grace Warrior is clearly fearless, because she just fed real-life squids to giant sea turtles at the zoo. Did I mention she’s only 3 years old?! Of course, being an Irwin gives you some pre-disposed animal instincts — and her famous family has helped her hone her wildlife talents over the years. In a new video on the Australia Zoo YouTube Channel, Grace reveals just how adept she is at being a little zookeeper.
In a video for the zoo, Bindi’s brother (and Grace’s “funcle”) Robert Irwin explains, “We’re going to introduce Grace to a few of our beautiful sea turtles that are in care here at our Wildlife Hospital.”
Inside the hospital, Grace and her dad Chandler Powell first check out the loggerhead turtle named Sardine, which is swimming around a tub. Robert holds the squids in a blue bucket, which he holds up to Grace with a pair of tongs. He and Powell help her lift it out and drop it into the water so Sardine can eat it. She watches him eat it, just staring at the turtle as he enjoys his snack.
Next, Grace leads the way to the green sea turtle named Shane, who has some barnacles on his shelf, which Robert explains could make him “sick.” Finally, they help feed another green sea turtle named Aurora. This time, Grace fearlessly grabs the squid in her hand, squishing it and squeezing it like it’s a toy and making Powell and Robert laugh. “You thought we were here to see turtles; actually, it’s for the squids,” Powell jokes as Grace drops more squids into the tub.
“Are you an expert turtle keeper?” Powell asks his daughter in the video, and she clarifies. “I’m an expert. I’m an animal expert!” (AKA, not just turtles, Dad — duh!)
“I’m a human that takes care of animals,” Grace continues. This little cutie just melted our hearts all the way to the floor! Her grandpa, the late Steve Irwin, is definitely living on through this adorable, caring toddler.
The comments were full of love. “Grace reminds me of Bindi at her age! So brave for holding that squid!” one person wrote. Someone else said, “Steve would have adored her so much.”
“That’s Steve’s granddaughter for sure. Love how she examined the squid,” someone else wrote.
In an interview with E! News in May, Irwin shared how much her daughter reminds her of her Crocodile Hunter dad. “I see so much of Dad in our beautiful daughter Grace,” the Crikey! It’s the Irwins star the outlet. “She has so much fiery, passionate energy about her. She just is a determined woman and she never stops moving. I mean, she’s 3 so she is a very busy girl.”
“When you’re with Grace, you really do see everything in a different light,” Robert added in the interview. “Everything is magic, Everything is special. Everything’s just a big spectacle. And it makes you really value what’s so important in life.”
