England’s fast bowler Jofra Archer has made a surprising return to the IPL 2025 auctions. Even though his name was not in the initial shortlist given to the franchises last weekend, his name has now been added to the final list of players.
This sudden turn of events got confirmed to franchises just three days before the mega auction takes place in Saudi Arabia on November 24. The inclusion of Jofra in the auction has sparked significant interests among franchises.
Jofra Archer’s initial absence from the shortlist, along with his teammate Mark Wood had led to raise of eyebrows since they were both part of the original long list. Archer setting maximum base price of INR 2 crore further adds further adds the revelations surrounding his potential return to IPL.
Archer being allowed in IPL would have a significant effect on his ability to play for Sussex in the early part of County Championship season. The ECB prevented Archer from entering the auctions last year, in order to avoid rushing his injury recovery. However, not taking him in this year’s auction would have put him to the side from the IPL upto at least 2027.
