ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- 28-year-old Joseph Seeley of Albany was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison on Thursday for the 2020 murder of Jimmy Moore. Seeley was convicted back in September.
Seely was found guilty of intentionally killing Jimmy Moore near First Street and Lexington Avenue in Albany by shooting him with an illegally owned firearm on September 23, 2020. Four years later, he was convicted of second-degree murder and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
At the sentencing, Moore's mother, Gwen Moore, stated "The Bible says ‘forgive those who trespass against you’, and that’s what you did to me. You devastated my whole family, especially his two daughters who no longer have their dad. He missed their special moments, their Sweet Sixteen, their prom, their graduations. My two daughters no longer have their brother, their baby brother, because he was the youngest. I no longer have my only son. Not only did you devastate his family, you devastated the whole community he grew up in. If I had any say in the time you serve, it would be life. It should always be life for a life."
"If there is one resonating theme that we’ve heard today, it's that this was a senseless act, and that Jimmy was a kind soul," said Assistant District Attorney Jessica Blain-Lewis. Not that anyone deserves to be shot, but in this particular instance, there are so many questions left as to why this happened."
Seely was sentenced before Judge Roger McDonough at the Albany County Supreme Court.
