Several Spurs players stood out during the international break for their respective nations, but no player impressed as much as Dejan Kulusevski.
The new-look Sweden side under Jon Dahl Tomasson has been built around Kulusevski‘s strengths, and one can understand why, given how much the attacking midfielder’s game has come on recently.
In the Nations League clash against Azerbaijan on Tuesday, the Tottenham man started as a number ten behind two strikes, Victor Gyokeres and Alexander Isak, being given the freedom to roam and pick up the ball in different areas of the pitch.
Kulusevski had a field day, with the Azerbaijani defence struggling to cope with his movement and his enterprising play.
Almost all of Sweden’s attacks came through the 24-year-old, who scored twice, assisted one, and had a key hand in another goal as the home side emerged 6-0 winners in Stockholm.
Svenska Fans handed Kulusevski a rating of 4/5, saying: “Two-goal scorer and a constant threat as usual. Dribbles, finds surfaces and shoots. Has an incredible level in him.”
Fotboll Skanalen gave him the same rating, writing about the Spurs man’s performance: “Was in a real game mood and involved in a lot going forward. Scored two goals and was involved in two more.
“Made it 1-0 after a simple and good finish. Then a good preparatory work to 2-0. Scored 4-0. Involved in the 6-0 when he set the ball to Salétros who assisted Gyökeres.”
Kulusevski’s individual stats from his performance against Azerbaijan show just how dominant the former Juventus star was. He even landed a 10/10 rating from one source!
Apart from his goals and his assist, TBR Football reveal that he had a total of 113 touches, and completed 55 of his 68 attempted passes, 8 of which were key passes.
Dejan Kulusevski also completed all four of the dribbles he attempted, had four shots on target and the Spurs star created two big chances for his side, one of which was taken by Gyokeres.
