Amelia Thomas and freshman Penelope Lee posted double-doubles as Marin Academy opened the girls basketball season with a 48-6 win against Credo on Tuesday. MA had 26 steals in the game, 11 of them by Thomas, who also scored a game-high 19 points. Lee added 15 points and 10 assists for MA (1-0).
• Novato pulled out a taut 33-27 victory over host St. Helena on Tuesday. The Hornets are scheduled to play at Petaluma on Thursday.
San Rafael High gave new head coach Colin Hamilton a 77-47 victory over Analy in Sebastopol in his debut with the Bulldogs (1-0) on Tuesday night. Gio Brovelli and Luke Shapiro led a Bulldogs lineup that featured 11 different scorers. San Rafael is scheduled to face San Domenico on Saturday.
• Terra Linda beat Tam, 51-42, in Tuesday’s season debut during a non-league matchup.
Redwood saw its season come to an end in the NorCal Division I championship game, falling 18-25, 25-19, 14-25, 17-25 against Foothill of Pleasanton on Tuesday night.
Stats were not available at press time. The No. 6 Giants (27-5) were also eliminated by No. 5 Foothill (30-10) in four sets in the North Coast Section Open playoffs last month.
The Falcons, seeking the program’s first state title, will play Palos Verdes at Santiago Canyon College in Orange on Friday night.
Senior outside hitter Kaycie Burdick led Foothill with 20 kills and a block, including the game-sealing spike in the fourth set. Senior middle blocker Lulu Hoenninger added 14 kills and seven blocks and outside hitter Sophia Burdick had 10 kills and two blocks.
• Novato resident Claire Ellis helped lead St. Vincent de Paul to its first NorCal title in program history as the No. 3 Mustangs swept past No. 1 San Francisco Waldorf 25-15, 25-23, 25-14 in the D-VI title game on Tuesday. Ellis, a sophomore, was the team’s kill leader this season after missing her freshman campaign with a torn ACL. Ellis had a huge game on Tuesday, piling up 26 kills, six digs, and three aces. There is no state title game for D-VI volleyball.
College of Marin got 17 points from Ty Chappell and 13 from reserve Isabella Zepeda, but the Mariners fell 61-53 to Hartnell on Tuesday evening. The Mariners (3-3) are scheduled to play at Modesto on Thursday.
San Rafael senior Sophia Everett made her commitment to Cal softball official this week, according to a social media post by the high school.
Tiburon Peninsula Club bested Marin Country Club on Saturday to claim the USTA Junior Tennis U14 section crown in Oakley. Tiburon Peninsula was represented by players Luke Hendy, JJ Hendy, Grant Gordan, Bryce Phillips, Nicholas Dollard and Carter Smith. Marin Country Club’s lineup included Chase Hall, Keller Corey, Jackson Sabow, Colin Shilvock, Jackson Harstad, Jake Levernier and Charlie Levernier.
