Texas-bred singer Sundance Head lived a dream come true after winning The Voice back in 2016. But over the weekend, the country music star lived through a real-life nightmare after accidentally shooting himself.
In a series of videos shared on his social media pages, Head recounted just what happened and express his gratitude that he's still alive and had the help of medical professionals and first responders every step of the way.
"I am alive. I'm in a lot of pain. I was shot accidentally in the stomach. I was alone," he remembered. "I was sure that I was going to die. It was one of the craziest things that’s ever happened to me."

He was packing his car while his pistol sat on the passenger seat in a quick draw holster with no strap to keep it inside. "What happened was that revolver slid out of the case and it hit the door jam on the Jeep on the floor step and it shot me," Head explained.
At first, he didn't even realize he'd been shot. Once it set in, he began to panic.
"I reached down to feel my stomach, and the blood came out through my fingers. And to be honest with you, man, I was very scared. Then, I knew I was shot. I just got shot, and I was trying to process this in my mind. It was so fast," he said. "I reached my hand in my pocket in my blue jeans to get my phone, and my pockets were already full of blood."

Head was so shocked by what happened he ran off and jumped the fence on his property out to the highway to try and flag down help.
"I didn't think I was gonna make it, man. I was bleeding out right there. Didn't have anyone to help me," he remembered. "I had about a dozen cars go by and see me and make eye contact, and they didn't stop." He finally received help from a man he called "an angel from heaven" who called an ambulance. Once reinforcements arrived, he was transferred to a hospital by helicopter—a fear of his that he quickly overcome.
"I’m claustrophobic and afraid of heights, but when they put me on on that gurney and told me 'We’re getting in the helicopter, we got to go,' I was so relieved to get on that bird, man." While being flown to the hospital he wrestled with the idea of dying. "This is how I’m gonna die. I thought, 'How pointless that I’m gonna die from such a weird, freak accident,'" Head said.

He also thought of his wife and three young children that he would be leaving behind. "I wanted to talk to my wife. I thought I was going to die, and all I could think about was, 'I need to talk to my wife.' I wanted to be able to tell Misty that I loved her and that everything would be OK. And to, you know, just take care of my children for me, and tell them that I love them," he said honestly.
"I remember I was laying there looking at the ceiling of the helicopter. I was surrounded by my children. They were holding hands over me, and they were laughing. Of course, none of it was real. That was just what was going on in my mind," he described.

He received treatment at the hospital and is recovering at home, albeit with the bullet lodged in his body to this day.
"I still have the bullet in me. I'm not sure what, exactly, what's going to go on. All I know is I didn't die the day before yesterday, and I have another opportunity to live, and I feel like the Lord has blessed me," he concluded. "I can't even comprehend, really."
