BERLIN, N.Y. (NEWS10)-- Lieutenant Governor Antonio Delgado visited the Berlin Central School District on Friday to tour the middle and high schools, which student council members led. Delgado met with students to gain feedback about a new initiative.
The new initiative creates new and paid opportunities for students to be involved in their community while supporting services that address homelessness, food insecurity, mental health, and substance abuse. Students told Delgado that living in a rural area like Berlin, they often face challenges with opportunities similar to the new initiative.
The district said Delgado's visit is a way for him to connect with constituents and gain insight into possible challenges within his district. Berlin Middle High School Social Studies Chair Robert Gould arranged the visit so that students could engage and learn more about government leadership.
"We have been lucky to have New York State Senator Jake Ashby as well as the Lieutenant Governor visit us in the span of one week," Gould said. "That is wonderful for our students to see as they build a better understanding of what our representatives do – both of them stressed service and community."
