'Rotten and despicable': James Carville slams Trump for opening 'Pandora’s box' of horrors

Veteran Democratic strategist James Carville was confident that Vice President Kamala Harris would win the United States' 2024 presidential election; instead, President-elect Donald Trump enjoyed a decisive victory.

Carville, during the election, warned that a second Trump Administration would be full of extremists if he won. And the Democratic strategist, in a scathing video rant, slams Trump's picks as a "Pandora's box" of horrors — especially former Rep. Matt Gaetz of Florida, Trump's choice for U.S. attorney general, and former Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, who is Trump's selection for intelligence director and has drawn widespread criticism for expressing views sympathetic to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

In Greek mythology, Pandora's box contained a wide array of evils.

The 80-year-old Carville, in his video, comments, "Uh-oh. Oh, my God. We're pulling out Tulsi Gabbard and her contacts with Putin. Oh, my God. Keep going. Let's see what else is in Pandora's box. Oh my, we have sex parties, minors involved."

By "sex parties," Carville is referring to the investigation of Gaetz for sex trafficking allegations, some involving minors — allegations Gaetz has vehemently denied. Gaetz was never charged with anything, and the investigation was dropped.

Carville slams House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) for not wanting to release a bipartisan report on Gaetz.

Carville argues, "He said we can't release it because, quoting him, we would be releasing a Pandora's box, quote-unquote. Oh, my God, he did say Pandora's box…. In other words, Pandora's box means there's a lot of bad s**** that's been hidden."

Carville also critiques his own party in the video, arguing that Democrats will need to be focused and clear-minded as possible in the months ahead.

"Democrats, we seem to be, understandably, a little disorganized, a little dazed, a little confused," Carville argues. "And this is understandable. We're searching for a narrative…. In other words, we need a story that we can put forth to the American people to get them to understand how rotten and despicable…. a lot of the people on the opposition are."
