LANSINGBURGH, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York hosted its monthly drive-thru food distribution event in Lansingburgh on Monday. The distribution served more than 250 people.
The food bank is also preparing for the Thanksgiving dinner distribution on Saturday. Organizers are cooking 150,000 meals for 30,000 people in six local counties. CEO Tom Nardacci said they are seeing an increased need for help this year, and they hope to reach as many people as possible.
"In the Capital Region, there's about 100,000 people in the region that are food insecure," he said. "So even with the special distribution, we're only reaching 30,000 of the 100,000, even though it's that big."
The food bank took over the Thanksgiving meal program that was previously run by equinox.
