Assistance now available for low-income Kansans
TOPEKA (KSNT) - Low-income Kansans needing help to keep their heat on can now apply for assistance.
Monday, Nov. 18, Evergy is encouraging its Kansas customers who need financial assistance to apply for the 2025 Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP) to help keep their heat on this winter, according to a news release from Evergy.
The energy company is just one of five utilities that partner with the Kansas Department for Children and Families (DCF) offering assistance to Kansans. LIEAP is a federally-funded program that helps eligible households with a one-time-per-year benefit, according to the news release. Customers can use this benefit to restore or maintain electricity, natural gas, propane and other heating fuels.
Kansans can submit their LIEAP application online through the DCF website at www.dcf.ks.gov and click “Apply for Services.” Applicants can also attend an in-person Kansas LIEAP application event. A full list of events is located on the DCF website.

If you need help applying for the program, you can attend one of the following events, with copies of proof of income for all permanent adult household members and copies of current utility bills:
- From 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6 at Topeka & Shawnee County Public Library, 1515 SW 10th St.
- From 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22 at Topeka & Shawnee County Public Library, 1515 SW 10th St.
