GAA: Ballygunner in Munster final after win over Loughmore-Castleiney
Waterford champions Ballygunner have defeated Tipperary’s Loughmore-Castleiney in their Munster semi-final at Walsh Park by 1-26 to 1-16.
Kevin Mahony’s goal just before half-time helped the Waterford side to victory.
Sarsfields of Cork defeated Clare’s Feakle by 1-25 to 1-17 in the other semi-final at Pairc Uí Chaoimh.
The four quarter-finals in the Leinster club hurling championship have been decided.
Castletown Geoghan of Westmeath beat Thomastown of Kilkenny by 1-25 points to 1-14 at Cusack Park.
The Westmeath champions were worthy winners, turning in a tremendous performance all through, particularly in the second half which they won by 1-13 to 0-04.
Niall O’Brien scored 1-13 for the Westmeath champions as they defeated the Kilkenny champions to advance to the semi-finals.
They will face Offaly’s Kilcormac Killoughey who progressed after a 1-17 to 1-12 win over St Mullins of Carlow.
In Newbridge, Naas of Kildare were defeated by St Martin’s from Wexford by 1-15 to 0-13 points.
Dublin’s Na Fianna booked their semi-final spot after a 3-20 to 1-15 win over Clough Ballacolla of Laois. AJ Murphy top scored with 1-04 for the back-to-back Dublin champions
In football, the re-arranged quarter-final between St Loman’s of Westmeath see off Castletown of Wexford 3-11 to 0-7 at Lakepoint Park in Mullingar.
The final pairing in the Connacht club football championship has been confirmed this evening.
Padraig Pearses of Roscommon were the first team into the decider after beating Leitrim’s Mohill by 0-13 points to 0-3 in Ballinamore.
Sligo’s Coolera/Strandhill will join them after just squeezing past Ballina Stephenites after a penalty shootout at Markievicz Park.
Ballina looked like they had won the game in etra time, before two late free from Niall Murphy saved the game for the Sligo champions.
In the shootout, Standhill scored all their penalties, with Conor McStay’s saved to send the Sligo side through to the final.
