One Premier League manager issues a hands-off warning to Tottenham and the other clubs reportedly circling over one of his young starlets.
In a space of months, Tyler Dibling has gone from an unknown quantity to one of the most sought-after young players in the Premier League.
Such has been the 18-year-old’s impact, with the teenager being one of the rare bright sparks in what has been a poor season so far for Southampton following their return to the Premier League.
Various reports have indicated that Tottenham are one of several top-flight clubs plotting a move for the youngster ahead of the January window (GiveMeSport).
However, just a few days ago, Football Transfers revealed that it is Aston Villa who have moved to the front of the queue to sign the winger.
Southampton boss Russel Martin has insisted that he is not concerned about the fact that Dibling is on the radars of several top sides.
He pointed out that the Saints have turned down bids for the player in the past and asserted that they will continue doing the same.
When asked about the speculation over the England Under-19 star’s future, Martin said (via Birmingham World): “When you’re 18 and you play in the Premier League to the level he’s played at, I think every club in the world probably looks at you. He’s ours.
“The club has turned down bids for him since I’ve been here. The speculation is nothing for him or for me. We are in a strong position. I’m sure we will look at securing that and strengthening that even more because if he carries on doing what he’s doing then he will deserve that.”
Tottenham need a natural right winger to offer competition to Brennan Johnson, now that Dejan Kulusevski has moved to a central role.
Dibling fits the bill perfectly, given his technical and physical attributes, while he is also the right age for the current Spurs project.
It would be surprising if Tottenham do not put themselves right in the thick of the race for the youngster’s signature.
